Default No characters appear when using the Shift key

When typing a Word document, no characters will appear when using the Shift
key. Any ideas why?

Default No characters appear when using the Shift key

Click on Start | Control Panel | Accessibility Options | Keyboard
tab | uncheck the "Use FilterKeys" and "Use StickyKeys" boxes | OK.
