disable field auto update
found suggestions in this forum on how to disable auto updating of date
fields in my own documents, but is there some way to disable the auto update of a date/time field in a document that someone else sent me when i am opening it for the first time? something other than getting whoever created the document to insert date as locked field, or just as data and not a field. :-) tx for suggestions. |

disable field auto update
If the result of the field is supposed to be the date the document was
created, display the field code and change its keyword from DATE to CREATEDATE. That will always work, no matter how much later you do it. If it's supposed to show some other date, remove the field and type the date as plain text. You can't do that until you open the document, though, so if you don't know what the date should have been, you're out of luck. There is no way to suppress the update of a date field on opening the document. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. romdos wrote: found suggestions in this forum on how to disable auto updating of date fields in my own documents, but is there some way to disable the auto update of a date/time field in a document that someone else sent me when i am opening it for the first time? something other than getting whoever created the document to insert date as locked field, or just as data and not a field. :-) tx for suggestions. |

If you really need to, you may be able to see the original date/time by
a. creating a new blank document b. using Insert|File to insert the document containing the date field Peter Jamieson "romdos" wrote in message ... found suggestions in this forum on how to disable auto updating of date fields in my own documents, but is there some way to disable the auto update of a date/time field in a document that someone else sent me when i am opening it for the first time? something other than getting whoever created the document to insert date as locked field, or just as data and not a field. :-) tx for suggestions. |
