Default Creating a PDF from a Word file that contain pictures

Hi All,
i need to create a pdf from a word file - created with Word 2003 - that
contain images.
It happen that when a pdf is created images in the pdf file looks good but
in reality during conversion the image is sliced in different slice a put
together like a signgle image. if you open the pdf with Pitstop you can
easily verify this. I tried with different distiller settings, with different
pdf distiller (version 7 and 8) I also tried to convert in ps than in pdf.
It looks like word act in this way when images are big, like 3/4MB jpeg.
I tried to reduce image size until 1024x 768 pixel and the conversion is
correct.
It seems that word manage images in different way when they are bigger from
a defined value...
