Default Word 2003 Table cell shading

How do I discover the Gray % on an already-shaded table cell in a document I
created earlier? If I select the cell, and call up Borders and
Shading|Shading , none of the Fill boxes is highlighted. Although the cell
clearly has partial shading, I can't find out what it is, eg, Gray-37.5%,
Gray-40%, etc.

I'm using Word 2003 version 11.5604.5606

That's puzzling. I also am running 2003, and when I select the cell, one of
the fill boxes IS highlighted. If I just have my cursor in the cell, the
fill box isn't highlighted. But if I actually select the cell (so that it
turns black), the fill box shows up just fine.

To select the cell the way I did, put your cursor in the cell, hold down the
shift key, and hit the right arrow once. That should select the cell.

Default Word 2003 Table cell shading

Dear "Idaho Word Man"
I am very embarassed. Minutes after I sent my query, I realised that the
cell I was testing was not grayed, but had a pattern. When I went to a
genuinely grayed cell, sure enough, up came a highlighted square in the grid
of Fill levels on the Borders and Shading|Shading tab. Thank you very much
indeed for taking the trouble to respond. Next time, I'll be a bit more
careful before banging out a panic message!

Another troubleshooting technique you could use is to look at the
information in the Reveal Formatting task pane.
