Default How do I set size limits on form fields?

I KNOW I can set limits on the number of characters. However, I have some
free-flow text fields and need to set limits so that the overall size of the
field doesn't expand (beyond a certain number of lines).
I'm using the legacy text because I"m worried that many uers of the form
will have a pre-2007 version of Word and wouldn't be able to open a form
created sole with Word 2007.
