Default Footers - location of

Is there a way of changing the location of where a footer is placed when you
have a document that contains pages in both landscape format and portrait
format?

I.e. so that the footer will always appear on the short edge of a page even
though the page may a landscape page whilst all other are in portrait?

Thanks
