Default Possible to have incrementing number in header (not page#)?

Hi All

I'd like to include a header in my Word document that contaings an
incrementing number. After much investigation it doesn't seem this is
possible?

I don't want to use a "page" field as the document will be included in
other documents, I don't want different page numbering messing up the
numbers.

There can only be 1 section in the document.

The "seq" tag would have been perfect, but it doesn't increment in
headers!

Help!
