How do I get a column of numbers so that the units, tens and hundreds align
correctly?

If you're not using a table, use a right-aligned or decimal-aligned tab
stop; see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/SettingTabs.htm and
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/NumberAlignment.htm

Set a decimal tabstop. See
