Default Word: page x of y prints out as page 1 of 1, page 2 of 2 etc, why

In WORD, when I format page numbering as 'page x of y', the numbering is
correct in print preview, but each page prints out as 'page 1 of 1', 'page 2
of 2', page 3 of 3' etc. Does anybody have any solution? Ty
