What is an I/O Error?
I regularly save documents from Word 2003 onto Zip Disks but just today I got
a message saying that a file from my disk couldn't be opened because of an I/O error. What is that and what can I do about it? |

What is that and what can I do about it? In general, it's a really bad idea to open Word documents directly on any kind of removable media because of the way Word uses temporary files in the same folder as the document. Can you copy the document from the Zip disk to the hard drive and try to open it from there? If it still gives an error, try clicking the down arrow on the Open button in the File Open dialog and choosing "Open and Repair". Another avenue is to try opening the document with WordPad. If it opens, save it and then try it in Word again. You might lose some formatting. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |

What is an I/O Error?
Jay has covered most of the ground but the I/O stands for "Input/Output" -
in this case "Input from or output to your storage device" -- Peter Jamieson http://tips.pjmsn.me.uk "onslaught94" wrote in message ...
