Default Read Only users prevent read write users from open file in edit mode

This was discovered during some testing to migrate from Novell to
Windows. This happens in both environments.

MS Excell and Power Point work as designed, but MS Word does not.

Currently using MS Word 2003 SP3

Here is the scenario:

User “A” has Read Only access to Folder “Test” and all documents
within it.

User “B” has Read/Write access to Folder “Test” and all documents
within it.

If user “A” open a document, the header indicates Read Only

When User “B” opens the same document while user “A” has it open, user
“B” gets no notification the document is already open or locked and
the document opens in Read Only mode (read only at the end of the file
name in the header).

If both users have read/write access then user “B” gets the
notification, the file is locked by ….

This is problematic since the file should not be locked from editing
by a read/Write user if a Read Only user has it open.

Any help would be great.
