what is the 'check errors' button for on Word Mail Merge toolbar?

Mail merge
If you click it, you see three options.
The first just performs a merge without outputting to a new document, printer etc. It produces a new document containing a simple report on various types of error, e.g. if there is a syntax error in a field. The second and third options basically do what they say. It is probably reasonably safe to try them...
