Default footer problems from wordperfect to word

I am having a problem with my footer when I convert a wordperfect 10 document
to a word document (office professional 2003). The footer shows many
different sections and the page numbers are incorrect. (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 7,
8,9) How can I correct this?

Default

WordPerfect documents imported into Word often have many unnecessary section
breaks. I generally find that the easiest thing is to remove *all* the
secton breaks and then format from scratch.
