Default Word 2002 ( PC: XP) Controlling Pages & Numbering in a Self Made T

I created, saved & opened a Template.
1. Before I began data entry I had 5 blank pages & cannot delete them. I'm
assuming that Word Creates pages on the fly in a Template, as it does in
typing a letter.
2. How do I set Word so that it will automatically create a new duplicate
Template page on the fly as needed.
3. My nunbering attempts were also incorrect, but possibly I've resolved
that if I can get the pages "under control".
