Default Page Numbers and Section Breaks

I want to add page numbers to only a portion of a Word document. I read the
help files, but can't really say I understood them. I inserted a section
break at the beginning of the section where I want to use numbers, and added
page numbers to the new section, beginning with "37". That worked fine, but
page numbers were also added to the first section, beginning with "1". I
don't want those pages numbered at all. I tried to delete only the page
numbers from the first section, but the help files tell me I need to "break
the connection between the sections." I can't find any instructions for
doing that. I would appreciate any assistance in numbering only one group of
pages in a document. If I'm on the right track, how do I break the
connection between sections? Thank very much for your help.

Default Page Numbers and Section Breaks

OC,
Go to the header and footer, click on the next section button (last button
of the toolbar) if necessary to get in the second section, click on the same
as previous button in the header and footer toolbar (you will easily
recognize it as it will be highlighted (at least in version 2003), then go
to the first section and remove your numbering from the section by deleting
it.
Does this help?
