Default The file *.doc is not available

Hi:

I read all of the threads concerning problems with opening MS Word files (and
Office files in general), but not of the fixes seem to work.

I have Office 2003. I've been getting the "The file _____.doc is not
available" message when trying to open a Word document. I can open the
document in Wordpad, paste it into a new Word document, save the document,
close it, but get the same message when I try opening it again.

I don't have Norton Anti-Virus. I use AVG Free 8.5. I never had a problem
on other PCs with AVG Free and Office, only this dell notebook. And the
problem began well after loading AVG Free.

Any new ideas?

Thanks.

Temporarily uninstall AVG and test again.

Did this dell notebook ever have some version of Norton Antivirus
on it (maybe a free trial version that came preinstalled on it by
dell)? If yes, then you may need to manually unregister the
officeav.dll file.

I believe recent versions of AVG setup allow you to select which functions
you wish to install. Uncheck the one relating to Office documents.
