Default Word Doc and outlook 2003 changes automagicly to Reading Layout

Create a doc with word add in Header and footers then save this doc. Open
your doc and all is well in Print layout. Using outlook 2003 create a
message to yourself and attach your 2003 word doc and send. After you
receive the email open the document while in outlook and it opens in Reading
layout.

This is screwed up. If I wanted people to view my document in reading
layout I would have saved it that way.

I called MS and for 49.00 they'll connect me with a tech. is this a bug or
feature?
Or
Is there a setting somewhere in either outlook or word that I need to change?

Default Word Doc and outlook 2003 changes automagicly to Reading Layout

I can see that your post is created as a suggestion for Microsoft and not as
a question. However, since you ask a qustion, my guess is that you want an
answer, so here it is:

Yes, there is a setting. The problem is the "Allow starting in Reading
Layout" setting in Tools Options General tab.

This setting is turned on by default in Word 2003 and it causes attachments
to automatically open in Reading Layout. It is the individual users setting
of that option that determines how attachments open. You cannot control it
from your document.

Note that once a user has turned off the €śAllow starting in Reading layout€ť
option, documents in attachments will open as any other document as they did
in older versions of Word.

Gret information, I knew there must be an option for my own system but I
would think that when you save a doc that you intend to send to someone else
this document should be able to open as the creator intends. Thanks

Unfortunately, Reading Layout is a system setting rather than a document
setting. There are two possible solutions:

1. Persuade the recipient to disable Reading Layout view (Tools | Options |
General). The recipient may thank you for this, as many users don't like
Reading Layout view but don't know how to disable it.

2. Persuade the recipient to copy the document to the HD before opening it
in Word instead of opening it directly from the attachment (Reading Layout
view applies only to documents opened directly from attachments).
