Default Date field

I am using Microsoft Access to Mailmerge into Word, one of my fields is
a date field which displays as UK style in Access e.g. ddmmyyyy but
when the merge is complete in Word, the date is displayed US style
mmddyyyy. How do I stop this happening?

Use a formatting switch on the field

{Mergefield datefield \@ "ddmmyyyy"}
