Default word Xp document not responding when opening in Office 2003

I have a doc file that was created in france with Office XP. When I try to
open it takes awhile and in task manager it goes between running and not
responding, I can press the esc key and it opens. I have tried to cut in
paste into new doc and have tried open and repair.

Is the template attached to the document also on your Word 2003 machine?
If Word can't find the attached template, it can take a while to open the
document for editing.
Try attaching the normal template to the document and saving it. It might be
better once you've done that.

Could it be that the doc was created using the French version of Word? Not
certain, but that could also make a difference.

You might also try starting with anew blank document, then go to InsertFile
and see how that works.
