Default Merge data into word document form Excel, large signific number

When I merge data into a word document from an excel data sheet, I sometimes
get and excess of signficant number into the merged feild. For example when
I entered the number 7.8 in the excel data sheet the merged number in the
wrd dcument become 7.7999999999999998. How do I prevent this from happening?

Thanks
