Find & Replace Problem
I am vexed by a strange problem with Find and Replace in Word 2003 in a
legal document (Interrogatories or "rogs"). I can find the text paragraph I want and change its style, with (using the first few words plus* and ^13) and without wildcards (using the exact text--it's a very short paragraph but repeated about 140 times!). The problem is that the style for the following paragraph--which is not part of the search/find, is also changed. What am I doing wrong? Is my document corrupted? Here's the gist of the document. The lines are numbered here for reference only but not in the document: Line 1: INTERROGATORY NO. 1 [style: Rog Label] Line 2: Blah blah--Text of Interrogatory No. 1 [style: Rog] Linie 3: ANSWER: XXX [style: Rog Label] Line 4: INTERROGATORY NO. 2 [style: Rog Label] Line 5: Blah blah--Text of Interrogatory No. 2 [style: Rog] Line 6: ANSWER: XXX [style: Rog Label] Line 7: INTERROGATORY NO. 3 [style: Rog Label] Line 2: Blah blah--Text of Interrogatory No. 3 [style: Rog] and so forth for about 140 questions or rogs xxx is simply a marker. When I run find and replace to change the style of ANSWER: xxx (lines 3 and 6 in the example) from Rog Label to a style called Answer, all the text with Rog Label gets changed to Answer. |

Find & Replace Problem
I just noticed something wierd. If I search for a paragraph mark the find
function misses the paragraph mark at the end of each "ANSWER: xx" line. That could explain why my intended style change seems to extend beyond the text I want to change--because what looks like a paragraph mark is not really one at all. If that's the problem, how can I fix it? Note: This document was originally generated using OCR which could also explain some wierdness. But it was I who added the "ANSWER: xx" lines and set up/modified all the styles. |

Find & Replace Problem
Sometimes a line break (or actually a portion of the line feed/carriage
return combo) is represented by a paragraph mark. But if you're already using ^13, you should be finding this anyway. -- Suzanne S.
