Default formatting

I am a writer
I want to write
Now I have office 2007 I cannot produce a simple page of text
I do not want flashy fonts, complex layouts and tabs which seem to change
from one line to the next

Here's what I want:

At the beginning of the document there is a paragraph indent
there are regular tab stops, like on a typewriter
the tab stops remain the same throughout the document
that's it!!!

I know this is probably VERY SIMPLE, but I am tearing my hair out.
I am wasting time
I don't want to spend my time struggling with foratting or going to forums
to ask questions
I wish I had never purchased office 2007
