Default Labels: label gridlines don't appear when I choose "new document"

I like to view the entire page of labels so I usually choose "new document."
That option usually takes you to a full-page template with gridlines
separating the labels, but occasionally, the gridlines do not appear, making
it difficult to "position" a label exactly where I want it to print.

How do I get the gridlines to appear?
