Default Compatibility with Windows 2000

I have upgraded a Dell Pentium III laptop running Office 2000 SP 1, upgrading
Windows 98SE to Windows 2000 Professional. Word 2000 now fails to start. I
have reinstalled Office 2000 including the numerous upgrades for security, to
no avail. I can read/edit my Word *.doc files with Wordperfect ver. 9 but
would prefer to cure my Word 2000 problem.

Thank you for your advice and help.
