How to insert a carriage return symbol before a table?
I want to insert a carriage return symbol above a table,
and when I press Ctrl+Enter, the table will go to the next page.I must press the backspace to make the talbe go to the original place. Is there any other way to insert a carriage return above a table without pressing the backspace. Any reply is appreciated! -- |

I'm assuming that the table is at the top of the document? Press Ctrl+Home
to get to the very beginning of the first cell, then press Enter. A new paragraph will be inserted above the table. This trick works only when a table is the first thing in the document; otherwise you have to use Split Table (which will also work here). -- Suzanne S. Any reply is appreciated! Ctrl+Enter is the shortcut for a manual page break. It is not analogous to using Ctrl+Tab in a table to get a tab character. Instead, put the cursor in the top left cell of the table, before the very first character in that cell, and press Enter. In that position -- and in that position only, and only when the table is the first thing in the document -- the paragraph mark that results will be before the table instead of inside the table. Another method that works is to put the cursor in the same position and use the Table Split Table command. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |
