remove US English from word, only use UK English!
I want the ability to totally remove US English as a spelling option.
I use UK English and do not wish to use US English for spell checking or grammar. Every time I start a document it defaults to US English which is highly irritating. There appears to be no obvious way to remove it, so this could be an improvement to documentation. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. I should clarify my situation:
1) Windows Regional Settings: -- Default: UK & English UK keyboard -- There are no other keyboards set up 2) Office Language Settings -- Enabled languages - English UK -- Default Version of Office- English UK 3) In word Tools/Language/Set Language -- Do not check spelling or grammar (off) -- Detect language automatically (off) Most of my problems are actually stated in the link you provided: 1) The language of a document suddenly changing from UK to US english 2) Confused, mixed up spellings in the UK English e.g. Analyze analyse - minimize minimise - organize organise , and yes i'll admit that even UK English dictionaries sometimes offer alternatives (but when trying to write a document with consistent spelling it can be very difficult). 3) There is no quick/easy way to determine a documents language (or even a section of a document, i'd wont something in the status bar) 4) The default installation appears to be US English!! this is also a problem under Windows. 5) Some of the problems may be due to multiple people editing them, possibly their word/windows haven't excluded US English. - But this should be catered for in some way, maybe a lock language in document, or a warning when a user starts using a language counter the document was originally saved with. 6) Having to use CTRL+A then changing language is quite frankly annoying, and that still wont update the headers/footers. You're quite right: Language formatting doesn't work satisfactorily in
recent Word versions. As the article states, you may have to recreate documents created on another system. Note that to see which language is applied to the current selection, you can look in ToolsLanguageSet Language. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Symeon" wrote in message ... Thank you, I just implemented this - this does give me a chance to see
something is wrong quickly. I am using Word 2003 and don't see any language details in the status bar.
Is there an option to switch this on/off? as I couldn't find one. Currently, I don't have access to Word 2003, but the language should
display, according to the following article: Items that appear in the status bar http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...900831033.aspx The article also has instructions for displaying the status bar (in case that's the issue). -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Symeon" wrote in message ... after examining my statusbar meticulously i came to the conclusion that the
language section was still missing from between [OVR]...[Spelling & Grammar Icon]. I then checked my colleauges Word 2003 and the language value was displayed as described in the document. The only difference (in regards to office) I can think of is that his machine was freshly installed with Office 2003, whereas mine was an upgrade.
