I am totally confused by word 2003 handling of text boxes. In Word 97,
it is straightforward. In 2003, it says "create your drawing here". Who
wants to create a drawing in a text box? I must be missing something.
Please, just how do I insert a Text box and of course, insert text in it?

On the General tab of Tools | Options, clear the check box for the option
that refers to the drawing canvas.

John,

ToolsOptionsGeneral. Uncheck "Automatically create drawing canvass when
inserting autoshapes."

If you ever want to use the silly thing, InsertPictureNew Drawing.
