Default microsoft word

I tried to delete documents from from microsoft word 2007 by deleting the
document
after I used search. After deleting the document, I found that the name of
the document is still in the list of documents, but when you click the
document the messge: file can't be found appears. You would assume that
deleting a document would be a default function, with an alternative to
deleting it to recycle bin.

That list is a Most Recently Used list. Just because you've deleted the
file, doesn't mean that you never opened it.
