Everytime I open a doc that includes markings, they show to the right of the
document. I know how to get rid of the markings, but can anyone tell me how
to open a document without showing them automatically?

Tools/Options/Security. Deactivate the option "Make hidden markup visible when
opening or saving".

Note, however, that this option is there and activated by default for your own
protection :-)
