Does anyone know how to center-align the text in a text
box?

Ctrl+E, same as anywhere else.

No, not between the left and right margins --
between the top and bottom margins. Is there someway to
do that automatically, so I don't have to add "space
before."

Debbie

unfortunately, you have the only current solution (Space Before).

As Terry says, this feature (which is available in Publisher) is not yet
available in Word. One workaround is to insert a single (borderless) table
cell in the text box and use the Vertical Alignment control in the table to
vertically center the text.
