I have Word 2002 and many, many printing problems.

I would like to install in the same disk Word 97.

What do Ihave to do to make sure one does not overwrite the other?

In another words I want to be able to chose between 97 and 2002 from the
same desktop.

Is that possible?

This is a rough answer and someone with polish may be along to provide
more technical details.

You can have 2 or more Office suites on the same PC, but unless you
have something like Virtual PC install which allows for 2 or more
operating systems then you can only run one suite at a time. If you
use 1 and then want to change to the other there is a significant delay
as the registry updates from one suite to the other.

maybe the solution (I never tried it) is to use a different user (I have an
XP) for the other version of Word.

In another words I create a different user and install Word 97 there.

Does that solve the problem? Or does Word install itself for all users?

I never tried that. It might work. I don't have two versions
installed right now so I can't say. Worst thing it doesn't work and
you can uninstall :-)

Well...I've tried everything over the past 3 years.

I have a 98SE connected to a printer and to a router, and an XP connected to
the router.

The printing works fine from the 98SE but when I try to print from the XP,
it either takes ages or it does not print at all and creates a whole load of
..tmp files.

The most I gathered is that when I try to print the XP looks for ports 445
or 139 and it seems to take ages to make up its mind. Sometimes when I
manage to print, I can only do it again by exiting Word and trying again.
Mire often than not I spend 10 minutes clearing all the .tmp files before I
can print again.

toTCPIP, the system tries a network connection to remote IP port 445,
andonly if this fails, uses ports 137 to 139. As Win98 and WinME don't havea

I have noticed, by monitoring my Kerio firewall, that whn I open Word, it
tries to connect out tp ports 139 and 445, and that it continues to do so
every now and then while I am using Word even if I am not trying to print.

Any help in trying to understand what is going on is much appreciated.

Why do you think your printing problems will be solved by installing
Word97? I wouldn't bet on it.
Wouldn't it be simpler to just solve your printing problems?

Yes that is possible, and it *will* cause more problems than it could
possibly solve.

Would you clarify why you are using a router? Is it that you are using the
Ethernet switch component to network your two computers and the router is
used to share an Internet connection?

If that is the case, the 'routing' side of things has absolutely nothing to
do with sharing the printer. My guess is that you have the printer sharing
set up on Windows 98-SE. On the XP computer you need to install the same
Windows 98 printer driver and not a Windows XP printer driver - because you
are printing to a printer spooling through Windows 98.

Is this how you have it set up and what type of printer are you trying to
share?
