I am using Word in Office XP 2002 SP3 with all latest updates. There are
two annoyances I would like to eliminate:

1. When I open a particular file, it always opens displaying a small toolbar
in the Word window (See attachment). What is this toolbar and how can I get
it to stop popping up each time I open this document?

2. This same file I use to paste articles from off the internet. Each time
I want to save this file, whether there has been anything new added to the
file or not, it insists on displaying the "This feature not supported by
Word 97" warning window. I do want to save the file only with Word '97
features, but I really don't want it to keep asking me each time I save the
document. I just want it to save it and get over it! And if it has saved
the file only with Word '97 features, why does it keep asking me the next
time I save it? Wouldn't it have been saved without those features the last
time I saved the file?

Any suggestions you can offer will be most appreciated.

Check Tools/Options/Save. It's probably set up to warn you if you use "features
after" and set to Word 97.

This indicates the file has opened in Design mode. I'm guessing your Macro
Security is set to "high" and that the file contains ActiveX controls (fields
from the Controls Toolbox) and/or macros. Word is deactivating them due to the
"High" security setting and letting you know by showing you the document is in
"design" mdoe.

I actually recall making this selection. It's just that I don't want to be
reminded of it everytime I save the file. Presumably, once you have saved

I didn't design it, and I don't work for Microsoft :-) I presume it's a safety
measure so no one can come back to MS and wail and whine that they weren't
warned data could be lost...

Try copying everything but the last paragraph mark into a new document.
Save, close, then open it again. Do you still get the prompt?

If you do, it contains ActiveX controls. If you don't, then perhaps the
document once did - once this is activated in a document it doesn't go away.
Best is to use the copied document you just created...
