Default banner hide/view

My wife has a document in which the banner is hide and she doesn't know how
to make it appear and stay? How do you turn the banner on so it stays on?

Guessing that this is Word 2007 and the "banner" is what Word calls the
"ribbon"...

Press Ctrl+F1
-or-
Double-click any tab (the words "Home", "Insert", etc.)
-or-
Right-click any tab and click "Minimize the Ribbon" to turn it off.
