Default Is it permissable?

I've posted this problem several times (4 I believe) on this NG and even
though I've received a couple responses that seemed promising, nothing has
corrected this problem.

Am I allowed (in this NG) to post a small gif or jpg as an attachment that
will allow you guys to view the problem? I am virus free. If "no", is there
an acceptable way to allow the NG members to view it?

Okay! Sorry, I just read the NG FAQs and I can see that it is against the
rules.

No, you can't, but you can if you go to www.officearticles.com/forums

It depends on how you're posting. If you're posting through the Microsoft
Communities or most other Web forums, attachments are not permitted. If
you're posting to Usenet using a newsreader, attachments are possible but
discouraged, though a very small illustrative GIF is usually tolerated and
can be helpful. Be aware, however, that those who are posting through Web
forums will not see the attachment, only those who are using newsreaders.

If you have a continuing problem then continue in the original thread, or at
least quote the text of the original messages, so that others may have some
inkling as to what you are on about. If you want to provide illustrations,
upload them to your web space and post the link.

Thanks Ann and Suzanne for the info. I'm up later than usual watching
hurricane Dennis here in Tampa, Florida. Suzanne, I have a sister living in
your state; Troy, Alabama. I don't know why you'd want to know that. I just
threw it in. G

Not sure I've ever been to Troy, but I hear their public radio station (from
Troy State U.) when I travel to Montgomery and points beyond. Needless to
say, we're watching Dennis, too. Our area is actually under a mandatory
evacuation order, but we're not living, nor are most of our neighbors, as we
are in a stout house (that has survived many hurricanes) in a safe location
(hundreds of feet above sea level and well protected from the east).

No -- not in ANY non-binary newsgroup. Many servers will simply
trash your attachment or even your entire article if you do.

If "no", is there
an acceptable way to allow the NG members to view it?

Sure -- put it on your Web site and post the URL.

If by "discouraged" you mean "automatically deleted by many
servers", then I agree with you. :-)

No, by "discouraged" I mean that those who post them are liable to be
flamed, and that in most cases if people ask, they'll be asked not to. But
msnews.microsoft.com does permit attachments, and those who connect directly
to Microsoft's news servers can both send and receive them. Also, believe it
or not, not everyone has a Web site!
