Thumbs up Answer: How can I use layers in a Word document?

Unfortunately, Microsoft Word does not have a built-in layering feature like other graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. However, there are a few workarounds that you can use to achieve a similar effect.
  1. One option is to use text boxes to layer text over images or other text. Here's how:
    1. Insert the image or text that you want to layer over.
    2. Click on the "Insert" tab in the ribbon and select "Text Box" from the "Text" section.
    3. Choose the type of text box you want to use and click and drag to create it on the page.
    4. Type or paste the text you want to layer over into the text box.
    5. Use the sizing handles on the text box to adjust its size and position it over the image or text you want to layer over.
  2. Another option is to use the "Wrap Text" feature to layer text around an image. Here's how:
    1. Insert the image you want to layer text around.
    2. Click on the image to select it.
    3. Click on the "Format" tab in the ribbon.
    4. Click on the "Wrap Text" button in the "Arrange" section.
    5. Choose the type of text wrapping you want to use, such as "Square" or "Tight".
    6. Type or paste the text you want to layer around the image.

While these workarounds may not be as robust as a true layering feature, they can still help you achieve the effect you're looking for in your Word document.

Word doesn't use the term 'layer', but yes. Put your overlay text in a
textbox. Set the textbox fill and line to none. Set the graphics to allow
overlap. Then use the Order option (on the context menu and on the Draw menu
on the Drawing toolbar) if necessary to set the layering.
