Thumbs up Answer: where is the "checkmark" symbol located in word

Hi there! The checkmark symbol is located in the Symbol menu in Microsoft Word. Here are the steps to insert a checkmark symbol in Word 2007:
  1. Place your cursor where you want to insert the checkmark symbol.
  2. Click on the Insert tab in the top menu.
  3. Click on the Symbol button in the Symbols section of the ribbon.
  4. In the drop-down menu, select More Symbols.
  5. In the Symbol dialog box, select Wingdings from the Font drop-down menu.
  6. Scroll down until you find the checkmark symbol (it looks like a square root symbol with a checkmark).
  7. Click on the checkmark symbol to select it.
  8. Click on the Insert button to insert the checkmark symbol into your document.
  9. Close the Symbol dialog box.

That's it! You should now have a checkmark symbol in your Word document.

Type the number 2713 or 2714 in the document and then press Alt+X. The first
one gives you a lighter checkmark, the second one a bolder checkmark.

If you want a checkmark in a box, use the number 2611 (and the empty box is
2610).

In general, see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/InsertSpecChars.htm.
