when I tell the printer to print last page first, why does the computer

Some inkjet printers are already configured to reverse the print order. If
you duplicate this command in Word's Print Options, then this has the effect of counteracting the printer's built-in behavior (which may be customizable in the printer Properties). -- Suzanne S.
