Default Sort whole document prepared in columns not single pages

I have prepared a database in columns. When I try to sort surname
alphabetically this is resulting in a single page sort and not whole
document. Can anyone help please?

Make sure there are no breaks in the table. For example, when Word creates a
labels mail merge, it inserts section breaks between pages so that each page
is a separate table. Something similar may have happened to your database.
