Default Outside printable area problem

I have created a Word document that WAS printing fine. I am using 8.5 x 11
paper and my margins are top: 1.00", bottom: 1.00", left: 1.25", right:
1.25". The page consists of shapes, lines, and text boxes. All are above
the 1" bottom margin.

I then added a header and a footer and changed the footer margin to .25
instead of .5.

After changing the footer margin, when I tried to exit out of the page setup
dialog box, it gave me the message "One or more margins are set outside the
printable area of the page. Choose the fix button to increase the
appropriate margins."

If I hit the Fix button, it changes my bottom margin to 2.67". If I hit the
Ignore buttom, it keeps my 1" bottom margin but then when I print it cuts off
the bottom 2.57 inches of my page.

I then deleted my header and footer and reset the footer margin back to .5.
It is still giving me the same problem.

I don't understand what I did to cause this. Can someone please help me?

Thanks so much.

Never mind.

I changed the paper from Letter to Legal size, then changed it back. And
now it's working fine. I was even able to add my header and footer back and
change the footer margin back to .25".

If you do have any ideas as to how I actually messed this up to begin with,
I'd appreciate it hearing them so I don't do it again.

Thanks.

Rachell,

I am so glad you posted this workaround. I have been having the same
problem since yesterday and have no idea why and was ready to scream but your
suggestion worked so that my document is not getting chopped off anymore.
Now I will try my footer again.

Thanks very much.

Interesting workaround, and useful to know. The 2.67" margin is
characteristic of a conflict between Word 2002/2003 and the HP drivers for
certain LaserJet printers. One workaround is to use the Windows driver
instead, but this usually doesn't offer as many options as the HP driver.
Many users have reported that the drivers at
http://www.hp.com/pond/ljbeta/index.html solve the problem.

Rachel and Suzanne,

A complication arose for me. Everytime I save, close and then reopen the
doc, the margin has reverted back to 2.57. Arrgh.

I don't think the driver solution will work for me since my users will be
using a variety of printers.

Marcia

That is strange. After opening and closing my document many times, it did
not revert back to the wrong margin setting.

If I come up with anything I will let you know.

Rachel,

To correct my problem, I recorded a macro that set paper to legal and then
back to letter in page setup and set document to landscape in printer setup
and attached it to run whenever this document was opened. So far, it has
worked correctly since then.
