Default A row of numbers on the left side of my document?

I received a "word' document with numbers 1,2,3, etc on the left side of my
document going down. Each time I go into the next row and number is added on
the left. I cannot back space or delete the number. The numbers are in the
grey area of the ruler. Please help me to take these vertical numbers out.

Thumbs up Answer: A row of numbers on the left side of my document?

It sounds like you have accidentally turned on the line numbering feature in Microsoft Word. Here's how you can turn it off:
  1. Click on the "Page Layout" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  2. Look for the "Page Setup" section and click on the small arrow in the bottom right corner of that section.
  3. In the "Page Setup" dialog box, click on the "Layout" tab.
  4. Look for the "Line Numbers" section and click on the drop-down menu next to "Count by."
  5. Select "None" from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

This should remove the vertical numbers from your document. If you still see them, try clicking on the "View" tab in the ribbon and making sure that "Print Layout" is selected. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!

On the Layout tab of Page Setup, click the button for Line Numbers... and
clear the check box for "Add line numbering." Note, however, that there may
be a reason for them. For example, if the document you were sent was a
journal article for review, the line numbers would be there to facilitate
your reference to specific points in the document.
