Default Directory merge/want title in header only on page 1

Using Microsoft Word 2003. I want the title of my mail merged directory to be
only on page 1 but want page numbers on all pages. I put the title in a
header but don't know how to make it show only on page 1.

Also, how do I have the name at the left margin and the phone number at the
right margin? I accomplished the look I wanted in a table, but it was a
problem that each record was a separate table because I wanted to take the
borders off the table and would have 500 tables to format with no borders.

Thanks in advance.

To get the header to only appear on page one, you need to go the the Page
Setup dialog and on the Layout tab, check the box for Different first page.
That will then cause a First page header area to be displayed into which you
enter the information for the first page. It is best to set up the
information for the header on the following pages prior to doing that. When
you do it in that sequence, when you select the Different first page option,
the information for the header on the subsequent pages will not longer be
visible if there is only one page of the document, but when it expands to
more than one page, it will reappear on the subsequent pages.

As far as the alignment is concerned if you set up the merge fields in a
table and have only a single carriage return after that table, when you
execute the merge, the resulting document will only contain one table with a
row of data for each record in the data source. Of course, with what you
have at the moment, if you remove the borders from the table in the main
document, the tables in the document created by executing the merge will not
borders.

Alternatively, you can align the merge fields in the way that you want them
by the use of tab stops in the paragraph in the main document into which you
insert the merge fields.
