Default locatio of Backup files

Using Word XP on Windows XP.

It seems that with this new release (I just upgraded a couple of
months ago), Backup files are stored in the same folder as the
active file.

Is there a way to direct Word to place Backup files elsewhere? I
can't seem to see a setting for these files in the Tools Options
File Locations tab. (I've reconfigured the "AutoRecover Files" part
of this page, but that doesn't seem to affect Backup files.)

Thanks for any help.

No, there is not. That is where they go. I suspect that the reason for this
is to avoid name conflicts and accidentally overwriting the backup for a
different document with the same name. I believe Graham Mayor has written a
utility to allow you to store a duplicate or backup in a different folder.
You might check on his site.

Backup (.bak, .wbk) files have always been stored in the same folder, for
the reasons Charles mentions.

I never noticed them before! Maybe I had a different View setting
configured for my Windows folders. I'll look into that aspect of it.
Thanks, everyone. --Barbara
