Default formatting of footnotes problem

Hi, In my document, I have lots of footnotes: 1 ... 200. Down at the bottom,
where the footnotes are, sometimes there is a double space between where one
ends and the next one starts, like this:
1 Sitation about cows

3. All about fish

others times, the footnotes have no spaces, like this
1 all about cows
2. all about fish
3. all about cats

But, when I try to make the double spaces go away, when there is one between
footnotes--I can't.
Help
thanks
Steve

Have you checked the paragraph formatting of the footnote paragraphs to see
if some have had Spacing Before/After applied? Are there empty paragraphs in
some of the footnotes? This is easier to determine if you display
nonprinting characters (Ctrl+*).

If I click on the paragraph button on the toolbar, this puts a little
paragrah marker at the end of each paragraph. Each paragraph has one of
these at its end
1 Sitation about cows (1 par marker)

3. All about fish(1 par marker)

Each paragraph is formatted single spaced. There is nothing to delete
before or after. May I send you a sample as an attachment to look at?
Thanks
Steve

Steve sent his document, and at least part of the problem was 12 points
Spacing After applied to some of the footnote paragraphs.
