Default When I type a . I get two * Why?

I am working in Word 2002 and every time I type in a "." (that is a period) I
get two * (**). When I back space once, the two * become a . How can I
correct this?

Steve,

Apparently you have set an AutoCorrect to fire on a.

Go to ToolsAutoCorrect OptionsAutoCorrect

In the Replace window type a.

Do you see ** in the With window?

Yes. Click the delete button.
