Multiple users, one shared file in Word 2003
I have a Word 2003 file in a network folder and several people will access
and modify it. The problem is, everybody seem to be able to open the file at the same time, with Word giving no warning at all that the file is being used by another user. Also, only the modifications introduced by the last person to save prevail - all the others are lost. How do I get Word to warn prospective users that the file is already being used by somebody else ??? Shouldnt it be automatic ? Something like "file being used - do you want to open as read-only ?" (By the way, Powerpoint 2003 behaves the same weird way. The only one that behaves properly in Excel 2003, which warns users not when they open a file that is already open, but when they try to save it (it says "file may have been modified by another user - do you want to overwrite or save with another name" - my main concern is with Word, though) Thanks !!! |
