Default How did my cursor change to a flag?

I was inserting an em dash by hitting alt-0151, and I must've hit something
else, because now I have a cursor that looks like a flag--not my standard
cursor. I've tried hittting escape, and nothing seems to be working. It's
driving me nuts! Any ideas?

I'm trying to decide what "looks like a flag" might mean. One guess: Check
to make sure that you don't have "Click and type" checked on the Edit tab of
Tools | Options.
