Default Repeating table headings on each page.

Is there any way to automatically add a first repeating row for every table
in a section on a goup of similar tables on successive pages. A function
similar to what is available in EXCEL would be very useful

There is a command on the Table menu "Heading Rows Repeat." Select the row
you want to repeat and choose this command. But this works only within one
table; if you want to repeat it in separate tables you will have to copy and
past it.
