In MSWord2003, how do we selectively change the widths of gridlines?

The same way as in any other version. You must choose the desired width
first, then click on the appropriate line on the preview in Format | Borders
and Shading or in the palette available from the Borders button on the
Formatting or Tables and Borders toolbar.
