Default How to change DEFAULT in WORD documents.

Please help ASAP. Something caused "new document" page to come up "legal
size" and "landscape". I don't want that, and would like to have the simple
'portrait' and 'letter' size with 1" margins. When I do 'Page Set-up', I am
blocked by box that says "increasing right margin makes columns too small"
(something like that). I can't go on. No direction on how to remedy the
problem it speaks of - just blocks me out. I have major projects waiting so
really appreciate your help!

You need to fix or replace your Normal.dot template, explained at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErr...ocNotBlank.htm

I'd appreciate an explanation of how you chose a newsgroup on the
topic of "tables" to post this question.

You can change the paper size and orientation in Page Setup and click the
Default... button, but the error message you're getting comes from the
column settings, and for that you'll need to edit Normal.dot directly (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...ocNotBlank.htm or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...alTemplate.htm for
instructions). Go to Format | Columns and click the box marked One (even if
it's already selected).
