Default document centered between top-bottom not using tabs

When I was a WordPerfect user, I would have 1" margins all around. When I
would type a letter, therefore, the letter would start at the 1" top margin..
After completing the document, Word Perfect had a featured call Center Page.
I would highlight the document and pree Center page. In Word, it appear I
have to put tabs at the beginning of the document, then check Print Preview
to see if it is centered.

Is there any way I can do this, as I did in Wordperfect?

Thank you.

Default

Change the vertical alignment of text
On the File menu, click Page Setup, and then click the Layout tab.
In the Vertical alignment box, click Center.
